I draw big, usually double poster size so typical dimensions for a single illustration tend to fall in the 30in X 40in zone, sometimes bigger, but I also draw zoomed out, usually 50% for photoshop and 40% for HD Flash animations. By zooming out at least half of the total drawing area I'm then capable of achieving fast yet smooth, and most importantly, controlled lines without investing an unreasonable amount of time into the lineart, plus this allows me to see the bigger picture all at once so I can manage anatomy, perspective, and proportion without having to worry about anything shrinking or warping as I outline. It also gives me the option to zoom in later in case I need to draw more intracut detail such as facial expressions or hand gestures without having to worry about losing or blurring quality.

Also all my drawings start off as simple but fast gesture sketches, basically stick figures, movement and pose are more important than detail when first starting out a scene, if the basic structure of a character or environment doesn't feel right as a sketch, no amount of detail will be able to mask it.
